What is a proxy server?
A proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resource(s) you are accessing. The data you request come to the proxy first, and only then it transmits the data to you. A proxy server receives a request for an Internet service (such as a web page request) from a user. If the proxy server is also a cache server, it can use its local cache of previously downloaded web pages to provide the page without forwarding the request to the Internet. If the page is not in the cache, the proxy server uses one of its own IP addresses to request the page from the server on the Internet. When the page is returned, the proxy server relates it to the original request and forwards it to the user.

Proxy Question
• How to configure proxy settings in Internet Explorer 8.0

You can easily configure proxy settings by following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer.
Then click the Tools button and select Internet Options.
Open the Connections tab.
Click the LAN Settings button. In case of using a Dial-up or Virtual Private Network connection, select the necessary connection and click the Settings button.
Type the address and the port number of the proxy server.
It could happen that your network requires separate proxy addresses for different protocols - HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. In this case click the Advanced button, and then type the individual proxy server addresses for necessary protocols.
You can optionally enable or disable the 'automatically detect proxy settings' and 'use a proxy automatic configuration script' options.
In the 'Proxy Server' area, select the Use a proxy server for this connection or Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
If necessary, enable the 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses' option.
Click OK to apply your changes.
